Rolf Rose
Seven pillars of wisdom
These new paintings by the Hamburg painter Rolf Rose (born in 1933), display an astonishing range of colour for this artist; even so, the colour of some works has been reduced to “white”; these seem to float upon the wall. Rose animates the surface of the painting via minimal variations. His monochrome coloured bodies do not represent light; instead they react directly to light: they communicate with it.
The focus of this publication is a series that has never been previously shown: “The seven pillars of wisdom” from 2002, as well as works from 1987 to 2008, thus creating a comprehensive presentation of the work of the artist.
