Pierre van Soest

This catalogue presents the exceptionally diverse work of the Dutch artist Pierre van Soest. His work spans fifty years, and is characterised by incredible metamorphoses: including early work, public art, expressive painting and work with strong linear elements. Later creative phases include inventive self-portraits and family portraits, astonishing variations on a range of themes, poetic painting, and astonishing pictures of skies full of clouds and of landscapes. Series of drawings and paintings, which provoke fertile dialogue with contemporary culture as well as with the works of the Old Masters have been typical of Soest’s practice since the 1960s. In addition to important works from all the artist’s creative periods, for the first time, works on paper are being presented, particular works from an artist’s life.
