Wolfgang Kliege

Schürfstelle

Wolfgang Kliege has made a name for himself as sculptor and film-maker. His documentaries reveal his careful and reserved method of observation. His sculptures combine an enjoyment of the fantastic with clearly defined forms and technical precision. Humour and as sense of self-irony are typical of Kliege, as is his critical observation of society and his commitment to nature conservation. His latest works include visionary landscapes made from wood and steel – ruptured by deep fissures; these human interventions create “excavation sites”. This is the title of this book; here the artist investigates unexpected encounters and events that have shaped his life. Here he is extremely critical of social and political developments that have gone astray, spicing things up with his reflections and over-the-top satirical comments.
