Clivia Vorrath
linea clivia
Preoccupation with the work of Clivia Vorrath is tantamount to time travel. Nevertheless it endures and, as in the past, appeals to us in its clarity and beauty.
Vorrath’s drawings and photographs, which she produced between 1970 and 1982 ask philosophical questions about life, female existence in the world and existential threat. They also address the relationship between the body and the surface, the line and the body, light, colour and darkness. The key to her artistic message is the utter simplicity of the materials that she uses. Again and again, we see female figures who can be considered self-portraits.
Against the background of the artist’s personal fate, this is a visually sensual, thoughtful and touching oeuvre, exhibited for the first time in this scope.
