here and elsewhere

“here and elsewhere” brings together artists with very different biographies to the region of Ostwestfalen-Lippe. The joint theme is that of the individual living space, how it is located between a connection to roots and the desire for departure, between being a foreigner and coming home, as well as the necessity of travel and the desire to arrive. Equally, questions are raised about the location of thinking and working, about the necessary conditions for productive art practice, about the potential of a region like OWL. Very individual attitudes and forms of expression encompass the energies of departure, longing, disappointment and enrichment while the search for one’s own roots provides the background for the art presented here, which moves well beyond the purely regional.
