Rolf Iseli

Zeitschichten – Les strates du temps

Rolf Iseli is one of the most famous contemporary Swiss artists. This comprehensive catalogue brings together all his themes and stages of development for the first time. It demonstrates how Iseli’s creative practice moved from the informal oil painting of the post-war period to sculptures and objects within the context of Pop Art, to collages and assemblages at the start of the 1970s and finally to material paintings. Iseli’s art is located between genres. In new ways, always committed to the creative process, in his works Iseli includes naturally and artificially produced materials as well as everyday objects in a range of mixed media. Rolf Iseli’s subject is that of the human being and our natural living space. In extensive end-of-time landscapes, the primordial being appears: the antithesis of human being/nature is removed and is understood and reformed into a synthesis.
