Gert und Uwe Tobias
Drawings and Collages
Since their exhibition at New York’s Museum of Modern Art, Gert and Uwe Tobias have been two of the shooting stars of the international art scene. Born in Romania in 1973, the twins are known above all for their large-scale woodcuts featuring motifs borrowed from Eastern European folklore.
In parallel with these works, they also produce small drawings characterised by a diverse and innovative style using in some cases acrylic paint, ballpoint pen and collage and in others using only typewriter printing. Their portfolio forms two largely independent series of works and the brothers’ oeuvre will be the focus of their first solo exhibition in Ludwigshafen and the subject of this catalogue.
