Nicolaus Schmidt
Breakin´ the City
The photographer Nicolaus Schmidt shows New York from an unusual perspective. A new form of city life whirls through the urban canyons of the megacity. In the midst of this hectic activity, living sculptures appear to emerge from a different time dimension. This illustrated book, which is also an urban photography tour through New York, shows break dancers from the Bronx and Brooklyn who see the city as their stage. Examples include the two young dancers who display their adventurous leaps on an express train journey through the New York subway system. In the second section of the book, the photographer presents striking portraits of the dancers and describes their extraordinary life stories and his very personal experiences with them.
