Franz Gertsch - Seasons
Works from 1983 to 2011
Although centred on Franz Gertsch’s most recent “Four Seasons cycle which was completed only in 2011, this catalogue also looks back on his paintings, prints and drawings of the past thirty years. Gertsch ranks among Switzerland’s most important contemporary artists. His hyperrealistic paintings that invariably turn on the theme of reality as also the woodcuts that are remarkable in terms of both format and technique are both visually and conceptually challenging. Taking photographs as his starting point, his works follow their own immanent logic in which the purity of the material is part of the programme.
