Otto Dix

Donation Dr. Alfred Gunzenhauser

Alfred Gunzenhauser’s extensive art collection of more than 2,400 works, which he donated to the city of Chemnitz in 2003, represents one of the world’s most important collections of the work of Otto Dix (1891−1969).
The artist’s life and work can be traced in exemplary fashion in the 290 works, some of which can be seen in the Museum Gunzenhauser’s permanent collection in the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz. Since little is known about the collection, which was put together over decades, the museum is using the occasion of what would have been Otto Dix’s 120th birthday to exhibit for the first time in its entirety its portfolio of the artist’s work in an opulent and magnificent inventory.
