Rainer Hagl

Die Anwesenheit der Figur

The figurative representation of the human form is the main focus of the work of Rainer Hagl. He often paints isolated figures, finding group portraits that evoke dialogue or relationships too narrative. He goes beyond superficial realism in his sculptures, drawings and paintings, and he unites and fuses elements that appear irreconcilable – forms of historical realism, of naturalism and abstraction – and so producing works that possess a stimulating ambiguity, and that are an interpretation of the reality that we live every day. Critical observation, personal experience, intellectual analysis and artistic intention are all interlinked to produce haunting, unforgettable works.
