Wolfgang Neumann

Wanwiz

In his paintings and drawings, Wolfgang Neumann cites famous scenes and protagonists from images – ones we know well – that are transmitted by the contemporary media. The artist (born in 1977) reduces individual motifs to create grotesque-surreal compositions replete with content; the viewer can thus choose from a great number of “immediate” ways of accessing the work. Neumann’s work therefore reflects how media consumption has standardised the way we perceive and understand the world. He produces effects of great skill and creativity, often using very few brushstrokes.
