Ad Absurdum

Energies of the Absurd from Modernism till today

Taking the Absurd as the point of rupture between art, society and observation opens up perspectives that reach well beyond the realm of art, and which lead to far-reaching questions. The forms of expression and the registers within which absurd realities are formulated today are polyglot and polymorphic. The decisive issue is that the Absurd is category that contradicts itself, one that subsumes an incredibly varied range of aesthetic and non-aesthetic experiences. Today, without an awareness of the absurdity of the world, it would not be possible to observe it adequately: art reacts to this situation using its own means. It goes beyond accepted standards and creates new ones by drawing the viewer into the risks and confusions of art’s present perception.
