1946–1948 Serves his apprenticeship as a stonemason
1949–1954 Studies at the Kunstakademie Stuttgart
1958 and 1960 Participates in the Venice Biennale
1959 Fellowship at the Villa Massimo, Rome; participates in documenta 2
1964 Participates in documenta 3
1963–1983 Teaches at the School of Art in Braunschweig
2006 Ernst Rietschel art prize for sculpture
Represented in numerous collections, including the Dresden State Art Collections, Albertinum and the Federal Collection of Contemporary Art, Berlin
