Biography
1892 born in Esslingen am Neckar
from 1908 studies in Stuttgart with Adolf Hölzel, works as an illustrator at the  city's healthcare office
1914-15 military service, severely wounded 
1917-28 employed a the cantonal hospital Zurich as scientific illustrator and mouleur 
1933-1952 lives in Mallorca, Paris and Southern France, joins the French Résistance movement and is temporarily detained, cultivates intense contact with the French Avantgarde
1952-1965 lives in New York and develops his unique painting style; works as medical illustrator at Columbia University
1965 returns to Stuttgart
1968 died in Stuttgart
