Angela Hampel was born in Räckelwitz, Kreis Kamenz, in 1956. After completing an apprenticeship at the state forestry business in Kamenz, she worked as a forest worker and driver. She attended the evening program of the Bautzen branch of the Hochschule für Bildende Künste Dresden (Dresden Academy of Fine Arts, HfBK). Starting in 1977, she was a regular student at the HfBK in Dresden and occupied herself intensively with literature. Along with twenty-two other women artists, she established the Dresdner Sezession 89 in 1989. From 1992 until today, she has undertaken numerous study trips around the world. She lives and works as an independent artist in Dresden, where she continues her collaboration with poets and authors.
