John Kippin studied Fine Art in Brighton and Newcastle where he was awarded an M.A. and later a PhD. He taught at the University of Northumbria, leading the Contemporary Photographic Practice programme. He later became the Head of School of Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Cumbria and subsequently was awarded an Emeritus Professorship at the University of Sunderland. His work has been widely exhibited in the U.K and overseas, most recently in China. He is a currently working in partnership with Nicola Neate on North Uist in the Outer Hebrides.
