Ruth Maria Obrist was born in Laufenburg in 1955 and grew up in Turgi and Untersiggenthal, Switzerland. After obtaining her teacher's certificate, she trained at the Zurich University of the Arts and then taught for many years at this institution. Since 1982 she has participated in numerous exhibitions. The artist was able to realize numerous Kunst am Bau projects and received many awards. She lives and works in Baden.
