Catrine Val began her career in Vienna as a graphic designer. She fled from the constraints she perceived in that field to art and started studying at the Kunstakademie in Kassel. After graduating, she completed postgraduate studies at the Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln (Academy of Media Arts Cologne). She then worked for six years as a teaching assistant of Bjørn Melhus in the field of virtual reality. Conceptual photography is central to her artistic work. Her series of works are also underscored by interdisciplinary works from the fields of performance, video installation, and documentary film.
