Barbara Kruger
Desire exists where pleasure is absent
Her large-format text collages, have made the American artist Barbara Kruger (born in1945 in New Jersey) one of the most important representatives of conceptual contemporary art in public and museum spaces and the artist was awarded the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement at the Venice Biennale in 2005. Kruger uses images and texts from the world of advertising and consumerism to create her dispatches. She uses formal pithiness to formulate disturbing slogans that use stereotypes strategically to ask questions about identity and the cultural representation of power. This catalogue documents her current wallpaper installation at kestnergesellschaft and her video installation Twelve.
