Bernini

Gian Lorenzo Bernini (1598–1680), who served under six popes, was highly esteemed during his lifetime as a sculptor, architect, painter, author, stage director and exceptionally gifted draughtsman. His many years of work as an inventor and designer of the Roman Baroque were exemplary for the development of Baroque art throughout Europe.
A good two hundred drawings by Bernini and his studio are in the possession of the Museum der bildenden Künste in Leipzig. The exhibition and accompanying catalogue present the Leipzig inventory together with important exhibits both domestic and foreign, thereby rendering the multi-faceted range of Bernini’s drawn works impressively comprehensible.
