Aatifi

Aatifi's painting and graphic art combines the abundance of light and the splendid colours of the East and the forms of expression inherent in calligraphy with modern art. He began learning the traditional Islamic calligraphy as a young child. Over the years, he developed it into a completely new, reduced vocabulary of form. His work is characterised by a potency of colour in space, by energy and vitality. The vibrant colours also point to the preciousness of lapis lazuli and its existence in Afghanistan. A variety of cultures and eras blend together in Aatifi's large-scale, abstract and scriptural art works.
