Alexander von Falkenhausen’s (*1970) work reflects the various manifestations of the element water. The viewer encounters fountains jetting up into the air and the infinite combinations of color and form that water takes on in nature. He never invents, relying rather at all time on what already exists and completely foregoing any surrounding architecture. The artist confronts the natural infiniteness of water through working in series, which return again and again to the starting point of fountains. This results in the creation of entire series of paintings, drawings, and photographs. His main medium, however, remains gouache applied to paper, wood, or plywood, in a fixed format of 15 by 10.5 cm. This book brings together the fascinating works of the past twenty years for the very first time.
