Anna Jander
It’s Soul
She is an observer of decay and ‘Detroit’ is her subject: the painter Anna Jander explores with the aid of Google Street View urban distortions of the city formerly defined by the automotive industry. She records deserted urban landscapes, samples new compositions with a cinematic eye and transforms them into partly large-format, sombrely beautiful tempera images. In doing so she assimilates her painting with its content, elevating and elucidating temporary states with obscurity and abstraction. In her conceptual work she traces the reality of those affected, in which the familiar and ordered dissipate and the certain belief in the future disappears in the vagueness.
