In 2024, the Kunstmuseum Reutlingen | konkret will be showing the major collection exhibition Bernard Aubertin: Rouge et plus. The French painter, a member of the ZERO group known for hismonochrome works in the color red, spent many years in Reutlingen. It was there that he created his large-scale wall and room-filling works. However, the exhibition also clearly demonstrates that Bernard Aubertin (1934–2015), known as “le rouge,” should not be reduced solely to his use of the color red, as he experimented with a broad scope of artistic expression throughout his life. The publication to accompany the exhibition features photographs from the current show, as well as archival material, hitherto unpublished studio photographs, historical texts, and newly written essays. All of this prepares the ground for a reassessment of this artist from the ZERO movement whose work, thus far, has never been accorded the recognition it merits.
