Bernd Finkeldei
Across from the moon
Studio utensils and paint mixed on palettes are the subjects of the latest paintings by the Düsseldorf artist, Bernd Finkeldei. His works from 2010/11 illustrate that this is a painter who paints about painting. He does this in a quiet, extremely concentrated way. His paintings are subtle reflections on how objects are transformed into images within the context of painting, aiming to combine figuration and abstraction in a very individual way, while at the same time adroitly appropriating the accomplishments of painting throughout history. In their own way, Finkeldei’s works bear witness to the uninterrupted present of painting. (Guido Reuter)
