Gesture has been regarded as one of the most important means of expression at all times and in all cultures. Leonardo da Vinci already described art as “silent” poetry, in which facial expression, posture, and gestures replace words. Nonverbal communication has always been central for coexistence. Gestures are the general means of communication beyond all language barriers. The eponymous collectors of the LUDWIGGALERIE, the married couple Peter and Irene Ludwig Aachen, have brought together works from antiquity until today in their extensive collection. Through gestures, they once again set out anew on a path toward understanding. The accompanying publication documents and supplements this path.
