Jiři Georg Dokoupil is the winner of the Lovis Corinth Prize for 2012. While his expressive, figurative style of painting aligned him with the “Neue Wilde” (Young Wild Ones) artistic group at the beginning of the 1980s, his subsequent work has defied easy classification. He engages in a critical examination of the history of art in the 20th century, developing ever-new stylistic approaches and experimenting with a diverse range of materials.
Dokoupil’s current cycles of work from the last ten years – Candle Paintings, Film Paintings and Soap Bubble Paintings – are presented here to mark the occasion of the artist’s receipt of the Lovis Corinth Prize for 2012.
