Gobelins and patchwork

Elrid Metzkes began creating her œuvre in the 1960s, as textile art took on greater significance. Initially she produced fine woven work, but soon moved on to abstract tapestries. In the tradition of the female weavers of the Bauhaus, she composed free works of art, all unique pieces, which were exhibited in art exhibitions from 1972 on. In the 1970s she became interested in symmetrical and geometrical compositions as well as in older techniques like patchwork and quilting, using a luminous range of colours in fine materials, which at times create attractive structures on the surface of her textiles.

This book documents works from the many decades of creativity of this textile artist.
