Erhart Schröter

Powerful colors and a dynamic style characterize the works of art by the Göttingen-based painter Erhart Schröter. Alternating between the abstract and the figurative, Schröter’s paintings react in contradictory ways to the impressions of the real world that they attempt to visualize. This publication presents a new series of paintings, the Doppelbilder (Double paintings), which reinterpret vertical movements as horizontal visual spaces, bringing them into balance. This sense of simultaneous double motion is layered like a shadow over the paintings, creating a sense of uncertainty in the viewer.
