Art isn't created in a vacuum, but through people, life events, and context. In this illustrated volume, Erika Sellmann Büsching explores what it is that leads someone to become an artist, or rather an "image maker." To this end, she presents illustrations of her work alongside autobiographical information about various stages of her career. It becomes apparent that certain themes and subjects are particularly influential for the artist's work. They recur in various different media—from her beginnings in loom weaving to tufting and then painting—and are explored in cycles.
Büsching's works are supplemented by brief reflections from collectors, an art-historical evaluation by Eberhard von Zawadzky, and an interview with Eckhart von Hirschhausen.
