Evgeni Dybsky developed his body-like, three-dimensional and highly structured painting technique based on his experience of Giotto di Bondone’s frescos. Dybsky, who lives in Berlin and Moscow, spent seven years working on this project, inspired by the restoration of the fresco cycle in the Cappella degli Scrovegni. This resulted in works the same size as Giotto’s frescoes in Padua, but also in smaller fragments, watercolours and drawings – important aids for the artist. This catalogue presents all 220 works, in a range of sizes, illustrating the distinctive character of Dybsky’s painting technique.
