The photographs of the Swedish artist Hans Cogne (*1953) cover a diverse spectrum, from explicit still lifes to abstract experiments. The span of their making exceeds thirty years, but his focus remains the same – to create his very particular visual spaces, a tension between reality and imagination, form and material. Most of his photographs can be regarded as objects where the picture and the frame constitute an entity. Their configurations are precise and much considered, but the process also has moments that are very intuitive and spontaneous. Cogne’s new publication shows his expressive works accompanied by a text written by himself.
