Initially sporadic, then becoming more regular and prolific, Harald Metzkes is creating a unique cycle of work: the painter has spent a year consciously “investigating the small format, using a format of 24 x 30 centimetres. He selected the images most important for him: these are not sold, never exhibited and only shown to a few friends. Metzkes’ selection runs parallel to his oeuvre in the form of a "small œuvre" and has the name: Pictures of the year.
This is the first publication of these collected works up to and including 2010; these represent the aesthetic approach of the painter in a way that is beyond the rest of his work.
