The catalogue accompanying the exhibition of the same name in the Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz covers works from Jakob Mattner’s main cycles of works from the 1980s to date. The exhibition includes light and sculptural installations, as well as works on paper which deal mainly with the principles of mirroring and refection. The material that is common to all the works in the exhibition is light – whether it is reflected, refracted or mirrored. His glass sculptures, such as "Zwielicht" (Half-Light) (1982); installations like "Percussion" (1997); collotype prints like "Schatten" (Shadows) (1996); or the gouaches from his "Spiegelungen" (Reflections) (2012) series tell a story of transience, transcendence and the mysterious nature of light.
