Maik Wolf

Autonomous topographies and architectural ensembles, as depicted by Maik Wolf in his paintings, are rarely encountered in reality. His surreal-like compositions are comparable to stage backdrops, waiting for the action to be played out. A veiled tension builds tentatively and enigmatically, ultimately manifesting itself all the more intensively. Wolf portrays different situations, all of which evoke the viewer’s powers of imagination: unspectacular “drive-by” landscapes, bizarre portraits of buildings that have never been completed or illusory vedute.
