Manfred Oehmichen (*1939) developed a very individual form of printing technique, in the sense of monotypes, which results in the creation of unusual pictures. Oil paint is applied to a painting surface and then covered with a second painting surface or a metal plate. The two painting surfaces are then pressed together by a hydraulic press. The largely incidental, local impact on the paint applied and the combination of chance and arbitrariness that thus occurs due to the application of unblended, pure color result in luminous, lively color surfaces.

Oehmichen’s monotypes are distinguished by a particular vitality and radiance, which corresponds to the artist’s inner emotional and aesthetic-logical concepts. His works are being presented in a comprehensive manner for the first time in the book Farbe unter Druck: Monotypien als alternative Malerei.
