Marlon Wobst’s works celebrate an exciting realism in the midst of a world of body optimization and obsession with beauty: the radical normality of physical interaction—the shyness, awkward positions, desire, humor, and curiosity. When Wobst shows the moment of a sexual encounter, his bodies, however, dissolve into abstract forms. Fleshly heaps encounter fragments of naked bodies, sometimes blown up into miscellaneous parts.

This publication presents a group of ceramic sculptures characterized by a very humorous approach for the first time. The conversation with the artist conducted by Annika Karpwoski offers a felicitous approach to Wobst’s oeuvre. In his essay, the New Zealander Anthony Byrt takes an in-depth look at questions regarding the erotic relationships in the oeuvre in an open and lively manner.
