Since her beginnings as an artist, Martha Jungwirth (*1949) has valued paper as a medium for painting. Her subtle, intensive color compositions serve to convey her subjective perception of visible and felt reality. The artist constantly alternates between abstract and figurative painting from her vantage point at the interface between the two. The enthusiasm for her works has been confirmed by her exhibitions at Frieze London 2016 and Art Basel 2017. The Albertina is honoring the Austrian painter for the first time with an extensive solo exhibition. The accompanying publication provides impressive insights into the work of the artist and shows her artistic breadth at the same time.
