The topic of the relationship between couples takes center stage in the works of Matthias Strugalla (*1948), a minimalist of black-and-white drawing. The figural, and predominantly monochrome graphite and India ink drawings, which are reduced to central assertions, are characterized by their free handling of human anatomy. At times playful, at times serious and existential, expressive works of poetic atmosphere full of dynamics and art-historical references arise. The new publication presents a selection of graphic works from the past five years, and sees itself as a personal contribution to the topic of “contemporary drawing.”
