Missing Synagogues

Martin Mühlhoff and Christian Vossiek soberly contrast detailed photographs of banal post-war architecture, anonymous empty lots, wasteland and parks in the city centre of Berlin with the presentation of basic information on Jewish synagogues. The photographs located forty-six sites in the German capital where synagogues stood before the Holocaust. “At the very first glance, you feel a disturbing feeling that gives way to certainty at the second glance.” (Matthias Reichelt)
With their photographic survey, Mühlhoff and Vossiek have created an impressive symbol of the repression and extermination of a important part of the german culture.
