Sibylle Springer

In her “20 Views” series, painter Sibylle Springer repeats works of Christian art. She copies each of her originals exactly in terms of motif and transfers them to their characteristic form, consisting of a web of fine brush strokes.  A shimmering blur effect underscores the mysteriousness of the subject presented, and triggers a disconcerting sensation in the viewer. In the process of copying, the artist pits herself against the originals, simultaneously offering commentaries on a Christian iconography which nowadays often appears incomprehensible.  This catalogue accompanies the artist’s exhibition of the same name in Schloss Leuk and  presents the works created by her since 2011.
