Werner Koch’s works are based on newspapers and images that have been seen before. He links both these elements with drawings that settle across the painted background, condensing them into a collage-like painting. Initial, subjective shorthand notes are developed further in the artist’s studio. Werner Koch always works in series whose titles refer to the place that has inspired them. His home in the legendary Chelsea Hotel in Manhattan was important to him for many years. In addition to his paintings, this versatile artist also includes installations and performances among his means of expression. This comprehensive catalogue is published on the occasion of his 75th birthday.
