Werner Schlegel’s work is characterised by a focus on the essence. This new catalogue documents sculptures and drawings on wood and paper from the earliest phase of his career, as well as various temporary installations in church interiors.
His wooden objects, which concentrate on the reduced-cool minimalism of clear forms and act as stand-alone pieces or as elements of larger installations in closed and open spaces, are linked to his drawings. These in turn are inflected variously by his clearly emphasised vocabulary of form, whose graphical components also structure the works in the space.
