This monograph comprehensively documents the very unique, often ironic work of concept artist Wolfgang Ernst (b. 1942). In 1970, he joined other artists at the renowned Galerie nächst St. Stephan, which at that time was the centre of Viennese Art Informel. Ernst’s exhibitions and actions often turned into spectacular happenings. In 1973, Ernst turned his back on the art scene, but continued to work intensively with objects and Concept Art. His engagement with the philosophy of language also resulted in several sculptures and works on paper whose key elements include graphic characters and scribbles.
