"Often only few strokes, dashed quickly onto paper by the artist, are enough to give the page's untouched white areas a depth in which the lines can develop their unrestrained interplay." (Jonas Beyer) Wulf Kirschner is known primarily as a sculptor of abstract metal bodies with linear surfaces. However, since the late 1970s he has also been interested in graphic art. In his drawings and prints, he experiments with the balances of power in the formal elements of the pictorial space; lines become the link between sculptural works and those that he produces on paper.
Kirschner’s graphic oeuvre is now unveiled here for the first time, revealing a hitherto unknown facet of the artist’s work.
