C.O. Paeffgen

From the Großhaus Collection as well as works from the Falckenberg and T.A.L. Collections

The language of C.O. Paeffgen’s art is always direct; nevertheless there is always a deeper meaning. The artist follows our times, selecting events and scenes that he brings together via his powerful lineament, creating an abstract art that has links to Pop Art but is never mere mechanical abstraction. Instead there are strokes – of fountain pen, felt-tip pen or brush – all deep and inky, of great intensity, agitated and which at times vibrate. The artist takes out what he perceives to be key scenes from newspapers, reshapes these, and thus forces us to stop and think. His work stretches up to the present day; here, the topicality and explosive force of the headlines used at times only become fully meaningful in retrospect. It is indeed a great pleasure to discover this deeper meaning and to interpret the apparent trivialities in the works by Paeffgen presented here.
