Camill Leberer

(Shelter / Casing)

The artist Camill Leberer (born in 1953) has created objects from iron, glass, and paint using a strict geometric language. In a poetic way, these objects occupy the space between the poles of painting, relief, sculpture and architecture. Their body-sized dimensions mean that particularly the sculptures appear as containers for human beings. However, the viewer cannot actually enter these containers; the artist has constructed barriers all over. In this way, the containers and bunkers become a space that can only be experienced in a visual and reflective way, thus provoking fundamental questions about the relationship of men and women to their environment. And this is exactly the intention of the artist: he is interested in the relationship of people to the world and in the visualisation of the “metaphysical dimensions” of nature and the human world.
