Even though photography is understood as a static visual medium, photographers have always tried to integrate elements of movement into their art. Since the 1960s, photography has been closely connected to performative art forms. Chris Kremberg (*1971) has developed her scenographic-photographic work within this tradition. She has worked closely with dancers for several years, studying sequences of movements, posture and breathing, in order to translate this into her choreographic photographic images. In her project Nackt/ Pur (Naked/Pure) Chris Kremberg investigates the relationship between the individual and the urban external space. The formal tension between body and space/architecture, organic and inanimate materiality, movement and the restriction of the desire for movement constitute the foundation of her photographic interpretation, which describes the relationship of the individual to the built environment of large modern cities as precarious.
