Germany, Germany …

Photographs from two countries by Rudolf Holtappel und Thomas Kläber

Two countries, two photographers, reflections on two living environments viewed through the camera with ironic distance: the Ruhr region of West Germany from the 1950s to the 1970s (Holtappel) and the East Germany of the 1970s and 1980s (Kläber).
Despite the differences of perspective and origin, both of these photographic chroniclers provides us with an irresistible perspective. With great perspicacity for what is easily missed and yet so characteristic in everyday life, Holtappel and Kläber record fascinating historical events, at times succinctly, at times with gentle humour.
